Buses stop running earlier than you might think—usually around 6 or 7 PM. Check the last departure time from your specific stop.
Early morning (first bus) or late afternoon are the best times to ride. Mid-day in summer can be very hot on the top deck.
Essential for combo tickets that include the Colosseum or Vatican, as entry slots for those monuments sell out weeks in advance.
State museums (including the Colosseum) are free on the first Sunday of the month, but crowds are enormous. The bus still requires a ticket.
